The gatepost to the airfield

Folkingham airfield

26/10/2007
A brief background to the location that inspired my 'Airfield' series
Folkingham airfield is situated in Lincolnshire. It was a WW2 base used for bombing raids and has had a colourful history since, but is now under private ownership and houses disused plant machinery and monolithic stacks of straw bales. There is no public right of way across the airfield itself.

The haunting message, written with a long-gone finger in the once wet concrete of the gatepost, reads:

'Time wastes
our bodies
and our wits
but we waste
time and so
we're quits'
