A brief background to Addie's
Addie's is a derelict farmworkers’ cottage built in the late 19th century shortly after the Glencalvie Clearances, situated a few hundred yards from the shore on the east coast of Sutherland. Since the October storms of 2006 it has remained inaccessible by road.
Addie’s became the location for an installation that formed part of the Croick project, but also grew into a subject in its own right. I became fascinated by the transformations that took place on looking through the broken window panes to the sea and by the trace of human hands on the building over time and made a series of works that reflect this.
