Arboreal
Images from the exhibition at Eden Court, Inverness, August 2009
The work shown here celebrates diverse aspects of mankind’s association with trees including the recreational, the commercial and the spiritual. A particular thread developed in several of the pieces investigates the intriguing relationship between trees and language.
The trees range from a tiny sapling struggling into life to a massive 1000-year-old oak; from a lowly whin bush to the imposing topiary of a grand yew avenue. Some have been cultivated for their commercial value, some for recreation, others still have a more particular personal significance: all are celebrated for their diversity of form and colour as well as for this distinctive relationship with people.
